English‘My practice is an exploration into self, fantasy and desires. I am strongly influenced by my childhood fantasies; fairytales, castles and the loss of innocence. I am fascinated by the dichotomy between our fantasies and our real desires. I explore these ideas through films and performances but ultimately they reside in my paintings. My painting seeks a magical land of fantasy and fairytale. When I use paint to represent my ideas I work to conjure the illusion of skin and containment in the body. …The containable becomes uncontainable. The body becomes fluid, unfixed…I am thinking a lot about how we are able to stay in our own body and how the skin keeps us in. At the moment I am trying to push these ideas of containment of soul as well as body, stretching that sense of awkwardness.’ Education:2008 - Chelsea College of Art and Design, London, BA (Hons) Fine Art2005 - Chelsea College of Art and Design, London, Diploma in Foundation Studies(Art&Design) and Level 3 Award in Life Drawing Awards:2009 - The Catlin Art Prize Exhibitions:2010 - With Rollo Gallery, London 2010 - With Orion Contemporary at ArtHelsinki, Finland 2010 - Alterwalden at Shankill Castle, Ireland 2010 - ‘Sarah Lederman work in progress show’ C4RD, London 2010 – ‘At Home’, Rollo Contemporary Art, London 2010 - With Orion Contemporary at the AAF, Brussels, Belgium 2009 - ‘Creekside open’ (selected by Mark Wallinger), APT Gallery, Art in Perpetuity Trust, Harold Wharf, London 2009 - 'At Home’, Maddox Gallery, W1, London 2008 - 'Between Body and Gesture', Orion Contemporary, Masons Yard, St James’s, London 2008 - Anticipation, Selfridges, London 2008 - Chelsea Degree Show, Chelsea College of Art and Design, London 2008 - Chelsea Card Auction, Chelsea College of Art and Design, London 2007 - Ripeness, Flaxon Ptootch Gallery, London 2007 - The Flaxon Ptootch Group Show, Flaxon Ptootch Gallery, London 2007 - Token, Bethnal Green Old Town Hall, London 2006 - This Way Up, Temporary Contemporary Gallery, Deptford
